Three significant sites are known from Upper Ordovician rocks in Manitoba: at Cat Head – McBeth Point, William Lake, and Airport Cove. All these Konservat-Lagerstätten, however, like the more remarkable older Ordovician (Tremadocian-Floian) Fezouta Formation of Morocco (Van Roy et al. 2015, Lefebvre et al. 2018), preserve a diversity of shelly taxa, indicating an environmental setting representative of more normal marine conditions than the Winneshiek Shale.

Konservat-Lagerstätten. Deposits including exceptionally preserved fossils that are known for the exquisite details seen on the organisms preserved there.

Konzentrat-Lagerstätten (koncentration Lagerstätten ) är avlagringar med en särskild "koncentration" av disartikulerade organiska hårda delar,

This is caused by incompleteness of biological recycling, for example where anoxic conditions, as in oxygen-free mud, has suppressed common Konservat-Lagerstätten Deposits including exceptionally preserved fossils that are known for the exquisite details seen on the organisms preserved there. These two sites are about 300 m from each other and exhibit similar fossils—such as certain Konservat-Lagerstätten (Seilacher, 1970)—offer relatively complete snapshots for exploring the ecology and dynamics of ancient ecosystems, as they generally contain remains of both biomineralizing and non-mineralizing taxa (Conway Morris, 1986). For these reasons, exceptionally preserved fossil assemblages—such as We show statistically that indeed the distribution of Konservat-Lagerstätten preserving terrestrial vertebrate integument is uneven, like the Phanerozoic record for these Lagerstätten overall . While correlated with sea level and some climate proxies ( δ 18 O values) (figures 1 and 2 ; electronic supplementary material, figure S5), these global trends do not fully explain the observed patterns. The Burgess Shale Lagerstätte that Wolcott found was a Konservat Lagerstätte with exceptionally preserved fossils of animal life, such as trilobites, but also plant life, which is harder to preserve, as plants Konservat-Lagerstätten (conservation Lagerstätten) Konservat-Lagerstätten, on the other hand, are deposits known for the extraordinary preservation of fossilized life forms, especially where the soft parts are preserved. A review of the processes required for exceptional preservation of soft-bodied fossils demonstrates that anoxia does not significantly inhibit decay and emphasizes the importance of early diagenetic mineralization. Early diagenesis is the principal factor amongst the complex processes leading to soft-part preservation. The development of a particular preservational mineral is controlled by Two types of Lagerstätten in the Fezouata Shale: Konservat- and Konzentrat-Lagerstätten • Both result from the dynamics of storm deposition. • Konservat-Lagerstätten formed close to the storm wave base. • Konzentrat-Lagerstätten deposited in the proximal lower shoreface.

Research in the field is accelerating rapidly and is becoming increasingly multidisciplinary, with the The Lower Ordovician Fezouata Konservat-Lagerstätte from southern Morocco has been one of the major palaeontological discoveries of the last decade. Konservat-Lagerstätten (sing. Lagerstätte) are deposits that preserve entirely soft-bodied or lightly sclerotized organisms, or the soft anatomy of forms known otherwise only from their mineralized or decay-resistant anatomy. Such deposits are unusual in the fossil record, because unmineralized tissues are typically broken down entirely by Konservat-Lagerstätten, fossil deposits that include exceptionally preserved soft tissues of plants and animals, are widely recognised as essential archives of palaeobiological information. Research in the field is accelerating rapidly and is becoming increasingly multidisciplinary, with the integration of new methodological approaches, new fossil discoveries, and refinement of current methods. However, these Konservat-Lagerstätten scheme. are largely restricted to a 20-myr interval between the beginning of Although macroscopic remains of non- or weakly biomineraliz- the Cambrian Age 3 (first appearance of trilobites) and the end of ing animals have been recovered from at least 17 deposits of that age the Drumian, a pattern that has been linked to changes in the around the world The Lower Ordovician Fezouata Konservat-Lagerstätte from southern Morocco has been one of the major palaeontological discoveries of the last decade.
